Beyond Conscious Leadership

The concept of “Conscious Leadership” is rightfully gaining interest among many leaders in today’s rapidly changing environments. But like most newly emerging paradigms, there can often be some confusion as to what this new leadership approach actually represents. So, let’s move beyond any potentially self-limiting interpretations of this deeper expression of leadership.

If you do a search on the various definitions of Conscious Leadership, you will of course see a variety of perspectives on what this concept represents. Yet, most of the definitions and applications of this concept are either unnecessarily confusing or lack sufficient clarity in the application elements of Conscious Leadership. When you read many of the perspectives on Conscious Leadership, you will often see this sort of ambiguous wordplay or the interchanging of related concepts, such as, “Conscious Leadership is leading with awareness.” Okay… uh, thanks for that. Or, “Conscious leaders work to support other’s growth while also growing the organization.” Once again, this is obviously a good thing but it provides no real clarity about the key drivers of Conscious Leadership. So, let’s explore this concept a little more deeply; to bring some needed clarity to the concept of Conscious Leadership; so that we can begin to apply this in a very real way to our current challenges.

Let’s start by understanding the foundational meaning of Conscious Leadership by breaking it down from a functional perspective. From a practical standpoint, Consciousness could be viewed as all that we are able to perceive and experience as a human species. Consciousness or the field of Consciousness is sort of like our common playground as human beings. And it represents all of the various places or perspectives that we can possibly explore and come from, both positive and negative. From this perspective, we are already “Conscious Leaders” to some degree.

But let’s take this exploration a little deeper into the mechanics of where the concept of Conscious Leadership is attempting to point us. In order to perceive and understand what is available to us in the immense field of Consciousness, we must utilize our Awareness. Our Awareness is essentially our clarity of perception, or our faculty for perceiving and understanding internal and external stimuli. And, it is our level or degree of Awareness that allows us to reach out and explore the field of Consciousness. It is our Awareness that becomes the limiting or liberating factor in our ability to perceive the deeper realities of our experience in the world, or our experience in Consciousness. It is our Awareness that we can more directly work with and influence to create a more expanded experience in life, and to become a more Conscious Leader.

It is our individual Awareness or our Awareness Quotient then, that is the linchpin to our personal experience in life and leadership.

Welcome To The Leadership Revolution!

It’s a new day! And it is finally time to deliver on the full promise of leadership.

This is AQ (Awareness Quotient) Leadership. The purpose of this site is to directly contribute to the rapid, exponential growth in our leadership understanding and performance. As a leader, and I use that word in the broadest of terms, there is so much more available to us and required of us in this most complex and  rapidly changing environment.

Yet, in order for us to position ourselves to finally fulfil the deeper promise of leadership… to provide the level of guidance, support and service that our teams and organizations require of us… to begin to live and lead from our deeper purpose… we must come to further clarity regarding what leadership really is. We must be clear about the foundational drivers of higher levels and expressions of leadership. And we must both understand and walk the path along the full progression of leadership.

The status quo of leadership is failing us and those we serve on so many levels. The gap has continued to widen related to what is needed from leaders and what is being delivered. And this is not because these leaders are “bad” or “dumb”. It is simply because our understanding of leadership has not kept pace with the revolutionary change we are all experiencing. The evolution of leadership understanding and practice has been far too slow to keep up. And the negative results of this gap have continued to grow. That is why The Leadership Revolution: Because Evolution Takes Too Long is so timely.

This site is dedicated to providing leaders everywhere with the clear, practical guidance necessary to support our own exploration and journey towards our highest level of leadership understanding and performance… our own expression of leadership mastery, in the here and now.

Through the active exploration of this blog and through the more detailed explanations in the associated book, we will begin to quite rapidly move beyond the ordinary, status quo of leadership and onto our own personal journey of extraordinary leadership service and impact.

And this higher-level leadership understanding, performance and results can begin to occur in the here and now of our complex environments. We are not talking about some complex leadership theory that takes years of study to understand and apply. The Leadership Revolution is focused on the reality of our duty, responsibility and the privilege of our role as a leader. And because of this focus, our leadership understanding and performance can be “up-leveled” almost immediately.

Additionally, the AQ Model of Leadership Development also illuminates a proven methodology for “up-leveling” the performance of others, in real time. This is one of the true missing links in most leadership development approaches. We no longer need to wait for others to “get on board” or “buy in” to our team’s and organization’s mission and vision for them to improve their performance to the ever-increasing levels that our complex environments require. The approach shared throughout the AQ Model bypasses these outdated, suboptimal approaches to engaging others with their commitment and best effort. The AQ model is not a push strategy… it is a pull strategy that powerfully and efficiently supports our understanding and growth in real time.
